Description

When darktable 1.3+427~gb527ed7 opens to the lighttable screen, clicking in the top right corner to switch to the darkroom causes these menu buttons to disappear, rendering it impossible to switch between the 4 screens anymore.

Could you try in darkroom mode to

  • click the top triangle to show the top panel
  • hit ctrl-h to show the header

and see if any combination of that fixes your problem?

#2 Updated by Matthew Halbert almost 7 years ago

I finished every combination of that, but the header does not appear. I can get the top panel to show, but the colored curve box for the right panel sits right on top of where the buttons should be located.

Could you upload a screenshot please? I am not sure that I understand what it looks like.

#5 Updated by Tobias Ellinghaus almost 7 years ago

Thank you. That looks as it should when the top panel is expanded and the header is hidden. When you hit ctrl-h in that mode, what does happen? Do you still see the small triangle at the top of the window?
Maybe you could tell me what the output of

grep header ~/.config/darktable/darktablerc

is (after you hit ctrl-h)?

#6 Updated by Matthew Halbert almost 7 years ago

Output:

➜ ~ grep header ~/.config/darktable/darktablerc
ui_last/header/visible=TRUE
darkroom/ui/show_header=
darkroom/ui/header_visible=FALSE
lighttable/ui/header_visible=TRUE
lighttable/ui/show_header=

Hitting ctrl-h many times always produces the same output.

I have no idea how dt managed to get into that state, but you could try to exit dt, open darktablerc in a text editor and set ighttable/ui/show_header= and darkroom/ui/show_header= to TRUE. Then start dt again and see if it worked.

This sort of worked! Now clicking on the top triangle/arrow shows the header. However, the program is not behaving correctly. If I switch to lighttable and then back to darkroom, the program is not remembering darkroom's previous state. It still looks like the included screenshot. To further explain:

--lighttable's header behaves correctly
--everytime I navigate to darkroom, I have to re-expand all of my arrows.

I tried deleting darktablerc and restarting darktable, but this did not fix it. Any ideas?

I just deleted the whole .config directory and that fixed it. Ran into a small hiccup where darktable was using the wrong thumbnails for a few images, but deleting library.db fixed that too, so this can be considered solved. Thank you for helping me get traction in the right direction!!
