Description

Right now, switching images in darkroom mode using the default key commands of space/backspace feels slow from a UI standpoint.

Hitting space, the only immediate feedback that the command was accepted is the filmstrip advancing. The old image stays up for several seconds.

A potential solution would be to blank the image view until the next image is rendered.

Another potential solution would be to display whatever the highest res preview image that can be rendered in under 100msec, and then immediately replace it with the full res rendering as soon as it's ready.

The problem is solved when one can hit space five times quickly and see five quick UI changes (even if the full-res images aren't ever displayed) in under a second or two.

Some issues:

1) blanking or displaying an unzoomed thumbnail makes it harder to a/b compare two full-res images because there is something displayed in-between
(this is less of an issue than it seems because the intermediate image is only on screen for a second or so.)

2) there is an underlying crash right now that dictates a minimum time to next image switch
