Description

Thank you very much for making it possible to move files between film rolls!

The current implementation, leaves darktable's name space and uses the folder paradigm instead of moving between film rolls.

It would be more consistent with the current user interface (and the guidelines) to use a list of film rolls instead of a folder selection dialogue.

I do see that the current model is more powerful, but it has been a design decision not to include file manager functionality into dt, but to disguise it as working with film rolls.

Do you mean that we shouldn't show a file selection dialog? Or is it just about the string we are using to describe it?

A simple list of film rolls and a "new" button would simplify the UI, but the problem lies deeper in two incompatible design decisions that make life hard for you guys (and the users):

a) I have been told that darktable does not think in files/folders, but only ever in film rolls. (A file selection dialogue breaks this rule.)
b) I have also been told that darktable does not use a default Pictures folder and film rolls can be wherever they want to be.

As soon as I try to stick to a) and want to create a new film roll, I'm stuffed as b) doesn't give me a default, but demands that I choose a place to put the new film roll into, but I can't because dt doesn't do folders.

The wording is only a symptom of these inconsistencies.
