Description

It would be nice to be able to choose not to import images multiple times.

use case: have imported images from a camera (roll1), then shoot some more without formatting before, run import roll2 name and accidentally have imported all the images in roll1 appear in roll2. That should be a choice.

Especially since DT doesn't show thumbnails when selecting which RW2 files to import.

I consider this a user's fault. If you decide to import all images again you should get all images.

The latter one (no thumbnails) seems to be a ghpoto2 problem (upstream). Maybe this needs to investigated further and filed a bug upstream.

Why should you get images twice? The whole concept of importing images is to make sure that they're accessible by darktable. Consider the case that happened to me tonight with a big import and a segfault halfway through. Now what? Find and remove the images that were imported and try again? Try to figure out which ones weren't imported and just import them? An option to not re-import dupes would make this a whole lot easier.
