Description

It would be nice to be able to use a filter on file formats in the collections

  • Status changed from New to Fixed

Use the filtering by tag in collections and search for the tags like darktable|format|{nef,cr2,jpg,...}
They will do what you want.

#2 Updated by Tobias Ellinghaus about 6 years ago

The idea behind this request was to get rid of darktable|format|* which was a quick hack in the first place (I'm king of quick hacks which noone replaces later ^^). Maybe we should reopen this ticket.

#3 Updated by Richard Wonka about 6 years ago

  • Status changed from Fixed to Incomplete

The darktable|format|* tags are redundant and invite problems.

The information about an image's format is contained in the image already, so there is no need to add effort into putting it there.

Relying on tags instead of the actual image format is asking for trouble.

I wonder what darktable would do with an rw2 that has been wrongly tagged by a user. If nothing else, it may easily get lost in the user's workflow, resulting potentially even in a financial loss for this user if they are a pro.

Adding a column to the images table to reflect the detected-via-exif/xmp File Type field would be handy.
