Description

I imported a few hundred TIFF scans (scans from negatives) into darktable. I edited their metadata, particularly the title of ALL of them, using a format starting with a long number, counting on the new darktable functionality to sort the lighttable view by Title.

Well, after completing adding all titles using the metadata editor, selecting Tltle as sort criteria: nothing happnes. The images are still being sorted by FILENAME. Inverting the sort after selecting Title sorting produces the same output as inverting the sort while on FIlename sorting.

I tried selecting all pics then clicking sort and various other combinations - nothing happens. Using other sort criteria like "colors" (or filename) does produce a result.

Sort by Title seems to be broken.

collection: fix sorting based on title and description.

The sorting was done only on the inital exif as found on the picture.
The title and description as enterred into the meta-data editor are
set into the meta_data table and so we want to handle the filtering
on those fields too.

Fixes #12511.

This is fixed in master branch now. If you do compile dt, please test as this is a delicate part.

Note that the issue was that the sort on title and description was only taking into account the exif data and not the one as entered by the user in the metadata editor.

Thanks Pascal for the fast response!

Will this get fix into the unstable release channel in your PPA tomorrow or sometime soon? I can and will definitely test this in my environment once the fix reaches the nightlies

You're welcome!

But I'm not the Pascal de Bruijn handing the PPA :)

And I doubt that the PPA is building the master unstable branch, but maybe I'm wrong. So the only way to test this at this stage is to compile dt yourself.

Sorry for the name confusion, my bad :/

I tested today with a master branch build from the opensuse build service -

https://software.opensuse.org/download.html?project=graphics:darktable:master&package=darktable

The fix works great. Both Title and Description order now do what they are supposed to do :)

Thanks again! looking forward to seeing this in the next patch release
