Description

The picture in the top left corner of the darkroom window has a fixed height. Depending on the used crop the width is calculated and the picture then receives a new width. When using 16:9 (for example) the width exceeds the usable space and partly covers the button to set the size of the main picture.
When the button is used to change the size of the main picture the used size is written over the small picture.

Confirmed, indeed overlaps.

It depends on the sidepanel size.
I'm not sure if/how it should be changed, especially since majority of photos are less wide, 3:2
I don't think you want to change the size of that entire area where preview is drawn depending on the image size.
