Description

Sidecar files should only be created when the user has changed anything on a picture, i.e. when they become necessary.

I often just use the lighttable for image browsing and viewing or the map and find it rather annoying that it clutters my file system with unnecessary files.

Concerning ratings: Just assume the default rating for images without a sidecar file, i.e. 0 or 1. Create a sidecar file as soon as the rating is set.

The default rating is configurable, so that will not work so well.

Actually it will and behave exactly like now - always assume the uers's default setting.

This behaviour might be made optional.
