Description

Tagging large collections is slow. Tagging 100 images on my system takes ~5 seconds, tagging 250 000 images takes ages. When tagging is in progress, Darktable just freezes and stops responding to mouse and keyboard input.

I do understand that tagging causes updating large number of sidecar files, so my complain is about freeze, not speed.

When Darktable is exporting images, it does not freeze: it shows progress, responds to mouse and keyboard, so user can cancel the operation. It would be nice if tagging behaves similarly.
