Description

Hi.

First of all - thanks for making a great software.
I'm trying to switch from Lightroom into Darktable, but unfortunatelly after playing a little the keyboard handling is a little bit odd.

  • When I enter the darkroom, I cannot use arrow keys to navigate phots (switch between prev/next)
  • When I click on color corrector (or any other widget) on the sidebar and manipulate it a bit, I cannot display the preview by hitting a "z" key (Tab also does not work). To get preview back to the work I must click on the photo area - this is a huge problem.

Keyboard handling should allow me to work without touching a mouse.

I'm not following, there is no preview that you are looking for. All the modifications are immediately applied/displayed.

Oh, I've missed them. Sorry. Unfortunatelly I cannot remap them to arrows (it is a little counterintuitive to use different keys in develop and lighttable).

I cannot display the preview by hitting a "z" key (Tab also does not work).

I wrote uncleanly. There is a "Full preview" shortcut in Develop shortcuts section, which defaults to "Z". It displays zoomed photo without sidebars. But it does not work as expected after touching a sidebar widget (I must click photo by mouse to make the full preview working). Remapping "Full preview" to something else, like Ctrl+P, makes no change.

What I would achieve - just a bigger preview. I thought the Full preview is designed for quick zooming.

Hit "TAB", this will display the image without left/right/bottom/top bars

Tab worked (I have no idea why it was not working before). But this is quite other function - the UI stays changed until next TAB hit. Full preview is displayed on keydown only.

Next issue is related to the TAB and Z keys. Please hold down Z (when it works) then hit TAB. You cannot back into previous layout (it stays "zoomed"). I must bring back sidebars by clicking white triangles by mouse.

I think there is still something wrong with keys handling.

Sounds like that is the proper behavior IMHO. Displaying bigger image will likely require first generating such larger preview.

That being said, i have just discovered "Z" in darkroom...

Ok, and the "white triangles" are also not updated properly when that happens. Now this sounds like a bug.

That is probably because the input focus is on the sidepanel / the module. I'm guessing that it either simply can't passthrough the unhandled "z" to the darkroom, or it intentionally does not for some reason.

Keyboard focus does show some unexpected behaviour, as documented in other issues, so this can probably be considered a related issue in that cluster.

The whole hovering thing is inconsistent and has led to loss of data before; e.g. slightest mouse movement away from input field led to image rating instead of text.

This is only a different manifestation of dt's - uh - idiosyncrasies in keyboard handling.
