Description

Following the instructions on the darktable web, I generated the WB presets for the Panasonic TZ100:

{ "DMC-TZ100", "", "Daylight", 0, { 2.40625, 1, 1.871094, 0 } },
{ "DMC-TZ100", "", "Cloudy", 0, { 2.550781, 1, 1.726563, 0 } },
{ "DMC-TZ100", "", "Shade", 0, { 2.753906, 1, 1.566406, 0 } },
{ "DMC-TZ100", "", "Incandescent", 0, { 1.691406, 1, 2.800781, 0 } },
{ "DMC-TZ100", "", "Flash", 0, { 2.851563, 1, 1.628906, 0 } },

Panasonic DMC TZ100: White balance presets, fixes #11628

History

#1 Updated by Roman Lebedev almost 2 years ago

I'm not sure what script you used, but it should be https://github.com/darktable-org/darktable/blob/master/tools/extract_wb

#2 Updated by Romano Giannetti almost 2 years ago

I used the script suggested in http://www.darktable.org/2012/10/whats-involved-with-adding-support-for-new-cameras/ --- basically http://ufraw.cvs.sourceforge.net/viewvc/ufraw/ufraw/wb_extract.pl.

The script you suggest in my darkatable git version gives me:

  { "Panasonic", "DMC-TZ100", 1 , 0, { 2.40625, 1, 1.87109375, 0 } },
  { "Panasonic", "DMC-TZ100", 2 , 0, { 2.55078125, 1, 1.7265625, 0 } },
  { "Panasonic", "DMC-TZ100", 3 , 0, { 2.75390625, 1, 1.56640625, 0 } },
  { "Panasonic", "DMC-TZ100", 4 , 0, { 1.69140625, 1, 2.80078125, 0 } },
  { "Panasonic", "DMC-TZ100", 5 , 0, { 2.609375, 1, 1.71875, 0 } },
  { "Panasonic", "DMC-TZ100", 6 , 0, { 2.296875, 1, 1.97265625, 0 } },
  { "Panasonic", "DMC-TZ100", 7 , 0, { 1.69140625, 1, 2.80078125, 0 } },
  { "Panasonic", "DMC-TZ100", Daylight , 0, { 1.9027355623100304, 1, 0.0, 0 } },
  { "Panasonic", "DMC-TZ100", Shade , 0, { 1.9027355623100304, 1, 0.0, 0 } },
  { "Panasonic", "DMC-TZ100", Cloudy , 0, { 1.9027355623100304, 1, 0.0, 0 } },
  { "Panasonic", "DMC-TZ100", Incandescent, 0, { 1.9027355623100304, 1, 0.0, 0 } },
  { "Panasonic", "DMC-TZ100", Flash , 0, { 1.9027355623100304, 1, 0.0, 0 } },

...I do not know what the 1,2,3,4,... etc. are. Ah, the firmware version is 1.2 (up-to-date as today)

Panasonic TZ100 aka TZ101 aka ZS100

Could you please upload full raw set (with all the crops) for whichever camera you have?
Ideally, use tripod :)

#4 Updated by Romano Giannetti almost 2 years ago

Hi Roman (hey, almost same name!) --- this camera is basically a 3:2 one (1" sensor), and the crops are quite "hidden" in the menu. But I can obtain it. To be clear, you need:

1) RAW files at 3:2 with different white balance (5 raws)
2) RAW files at all the crops (3:3, 16:9, 4:3, 1:1) with AWB (4 raws)
3) a combination of the two (20 raws)

...where can I upload them?
Romano

(notice that I have another issue with the noiseprofiles for the same camera, I can also uploads those RAWs if you need)
(BTW, for what I know, Pannt ZS100/TZ100/TZ101 are the same cameras sold in different zones; the only difference should be the default video mode...)

Just this. White balance does not matter. Ideally, use tripod :)

Ok. No tripod, but from a fixed position (the camera was seated on a pillar); notice that however the aspect ratio, the RAW is 3:2 --- I think that's normal. So I added the JPG OOC to be sure.

The files are (temporarily) here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/2bpnw4umcll6npy/AAD-dkAA5yjRJzYeawMcT-6Oa?dl=0 --- if you can point me to a fixed place for upload, I will move them there. Or can I just attach them one by one to this issue? I do not know if the 48.8Mbyte limit is for each attachment or for all of them...

BTW --- this has nothing to do with WB, doesn't it? Are the number I gave here useful or should I do something more?

Looking at the images, the content differs...
Ideally, the scene should be static, so that all the images have exactly the same content.

Yes, new-ish panasonic always write the full raw regardless.

So I added the JPG OOC to be sure.

Err, i though i said the destination :)
https://raw.pixls.us/

Yes:

raw.pixls.us is used by darktable for regression testing of rawspeed and by RawTherapee. It is available for any projects that need access to a library of raw files.

Ok, I'll try to re-do at home with a static subject and tripod and then upload to raw.pixls.us --- they already have a 3:2 shot, but I'll oblige ;-)

Thanks

as it says on the front page, if we want more than one sample for a given brand, then we want more than one sample :)
And even if one sample exists, but we want more than one sample, one should upload the whole set, and not just the missing samples...

Thanks

Done. 4 RAWs, remote control, static subject, uploaded to raw.pixls.us

I hope I did that right this time. Holler if not, I may be terse but I am perseverant, and would love to see this camera fully supported in next DT.

Yep, perfect, thank you (also, this shows that RPU's new code to detect panasonic's aspect ratios in such cases (where the raw is always full) works :)

Happy to hear it!

Now, the white balance presets... ? ;-)

#13 Updated by Stefan Schöfegger almost 2 years ago

The results in #2 look strange. Please upload the images with different white balance settings here.

#14 Updated by Romano Giannetti almost 2 years ago

Ok, I re-shot them. Here you have the RAW files. Next two in the next comment, sorry.

#16 Updated by Romano Giannetti almost 2 years ago

Incandescent and flash.

All the above files are CC0 --- do whatever you want with them :-)

If you need them, I have the OOC jpeg from the camera.

In the exifdata there are defined presets (WB Type 1 .. 7)

$ exiftool  P1000636-cloudy.RW2 | grep W

Exif Image Width : 1920
Image Width : 5472

but the selected RGB values do not correspond to any of these.

Did you enable a white balance fine tune or wb correction in your camera?

#18 Updated by Romano Giannetti almost 2 years ago

I checked, and no --- no fine tune enabled. This camera has 5 presets (daylight, cloudy, shade, incandescent, flash) plus 3 adjustable ones plus the "kelvin" option.

The jpeg profile is "standard", I just reduced noise reduction and sharpening (but I have not touched contrast nor saturation).

I can't see why the selected RGB level are different from the listed ones...

#19 Updated by Stefan Schöfegger almost 2 years ago

The WB setting of your cloudy image is (R,G,B value) : 656, 256, 445 (normalized values: 2.563, 1, 1.738)
These values do not correspond th the cloudy preset values: 653 256 442 (normalized values: 2.551, 1, 1.727)

Can you please upload another 2 images with cloudy wb setting but with different content? I wan't to check if the camera always uses the same values or calculate them.

#20 Updated by Romano Giannetti almost 2 years ago

Yes --- no problem. Here you have them.

#21 Updated by Stefan Schöfegger almost 2 years ago

Thank you. These two images have the same setting as in the presets. I'll add the presets. Images may differ a little bit when selecting the presets in darktable as the camera fine tunes them.
