Description

I have one of the new Fujifilm X-Pro2 cameras for a couple weeks, wanted to provide some sample files and help get support into darktable.

Not sure what all would be helpful beyond the attached RAF file. I know there are two ways it stores RAW files, compressed and uncompressed.

I've attached a compressed RAF here and uploaded an uncompressed RAF here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/km0yzolt53xxf26/DSCF8364.RAF?dl=0

Hey, I've added support for the usual uncompressed mode. The compressed mode is going to take longer. It's the first time Fuji does one and as far as I can tell isn't just lossless jpeg. I've sent a message through the Fuji website asking for a spec but I'm not really hopeful anyone will reply.

Meanwhile if you want to add more support for the camera there are two sets of image you can provide us:

  • WB Presets: Take a shot at each of the white balance presets and name them appropriately
  • Noise Profile: Take a shot at each of the ISO levels, include fully white and fully black (clipping) areas and make the shot fully out of focus. This is easy to do in a dark room with a lamp in the frame.

Oh, and if you haven't already please submit both files to rawsamples.ch.

Pedro, I'm working on getting the WB and Noise profiles, wanted to see if this image works for NP: https://www.dropbox.com/s/qki9xfrumf73tht/DSCF8593.RAF?dl=0 (want to make sure I have it right before I upload a ton of images).

Also, I'll see if I can contact someone at fuji pr and ask if they can help get the spec.

That's a compressed image and we can't read those yet. From the embedded thumbnail it seems like it could be more out of focus and the highlights are probably not clipping either.

#6 Updated by Pedro Côrte-Real over 3 years ago

That one seems to work but it's best to have more area of tones in between clipped white and clipped black. Most of this image is full black or full white.

Okay, made another attempt to get some more midrange, how's this: https://www.dropbox.com/s/mtors8w4op5hevi/100.RAF?dl=0

Just an update to say I heard from Fuji on the compressed RAW spec. They said they don't have information that they can make publicly available right now.

I've added the wb presets. Unfortunately it seems the noise profile images aren't underexposed enough (no clipping on the blacks).

Bummer. Well, I had to send the camera back to Fuji. Maybe someone else can take over...

#12 Updated by Torsten Schlopsnies about 3 years ago

I can take over. Pedro, what for sample files do you need? Is there anywhere a wiki entry for this?

We in LibRaw just opensourced X-Pro2 compressed decoder: http://www.libraw.org/news/libraw-compressed-fujifilm-raf-support

Any updates on the compressed raw decoding in Darktable? I've got the X-T2 and would love to be able to edit the files in DT.

Please keep this issue in mind. There where new cameras released last month using the compressed RAW feature, including the very popular X-T20 series and the medium format GFX 50s, making it now 5 models using that feature.

The developers of RawTherpaee just released a fix to their dev branch, maybe that function set could be adapted to work with darktable as well?

I will be happy to provide files and testing for any version supporting compressed RAWs!

I will be happy to provide files

and on raw.pixls.us we only have samples for X-Pro2, X-T2 and X100F.

I can't upload files to raw.picls.us because I don't own the rights. RAW files of the missing cameras can be found in the dpreview sample image gallerys:

X-T20
https://www.dpreview.com/samples/9390985052/fujifilm-x-t20-sample-gallery

GFX 50s
https://www.dpreview.com/samples/1149460223/cp-2017-updated-fujifilm-gfx-50s-sample-gallery

If you need the samples in raw.pixls.us database I will ask around in the fuji forum if I can get some files to upload.

It was decided that such edge-case use-case shall not be supported /s

ah thanks. when will this trickle down to the stable builds?

Certainly not before it is merged into rawspeed git develop branch...
Hopefully it will be in next major dt release, maybe not, we'll see

Is there any unstable/testing branch of darktable available that supports the compressed RAFs already? Would be happy to test ot out. I guess it's not enough to just compile darktable with the custom rawspeed repository, right?

Should any of the subscribers of this issue still have the "Fujifilm X-Pro2" camera:

Please upload a full (compressed+uncompressed raw) sample set to https://raw.pixls.us
The scene should be static, and the camera should be stable.
