List of views in header is making the window too big
In the following modes, I can't maximise the window to the complete screen with the maximise button or with a double clock on the menu bar (i.e, I can't see everthing and I have a big but moving window):
It is working in the following modes:
I didn't tried it in the tethering mode as I don't use it. Everthing worked fine with Darktable 1.6.9. Attached you can find two screenshots: one of the Print mode (where everything is fine) and one of the Darkroom mode (with the maximum windows size I can have).
Best regards, and thaks a lot for your awesome work.
Put most view labels into a dropdown
Only show lighttable and darkroom directly, the rest has to be chosen
from the dropdown to switch views.
- make it look a little nicer
- when trying to switch to a view that can't be entered (tethering) it
will keep that entry visible

Update: I found on the darktable website, under the third release candidate announcement, a person having the same problem as me. One of the asnwer is to change the la guge to english. And effectively, it is working (I can make a screenshot if needed). But it would be nice that it works in the native OS language. For me freench for example.

- System changed from Ubuntu to all
- Affected Version changed from 2.0.0 to git development version
- % Done changed from 0 to 20
- Target version deleted (
Candidate for next patch release)
- Status changed from New to Triaged
- Subject changed from Fullscreen mode in Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty to List of views in header is making the window too big
The problem is the ever growing list of views in the top panel. These make the window wider than what you screen can show. If you don't need the info text in the top and know how to switch views without clicking on them you can just hide the bigger part of the header with
For the future we need to come up with something smaller like a dropdown for secondary views (i.e., everything but lt and dr).

Super, merci beaucoup, thanks a lot. The ctrl -h trick works. Indeed, it is the samll text that tells me how many files in my coolection are selected that takes too much space between the darktable logo and the lightable menu on the top. That's annoying, but I will ust the trick you told me.
For now, as to wait till you come with something new (your idea sounds really great), why not change the translation from "x image sur y de la collection courante est sélectionnées" by "x image sur y sélectionnée"? Way shorter, same meaning. As I know quite well english, if needed I would be happy to help for translations.

In fact the translation you're proposing is even better to me. The selected images are not from the current collection but all displayed images. Those images can be part of multiple collections and even from the whole set of images in the library. Let me change this translation which is quite long in French anyway.

The text is now as you suggested: "x image sur y sélectionnée" or for plural form "x images sur y sélectionnées".
The meaning is there and the text is way shorter.
As this is just a "workaround" (and only for French language) not sure I should close this ticket.
Tobias what do you think?

Leave it open for now.
Btw, " The selected images are not from the current collection but all displayed images" doesn't make sense. "Collection" and "displayed images" are the same, unless you understand the latter to only include those currently visible due to window size/scrolling.

Like this. There are still some rough edges, but at least the list doesn't grow any bigger.
