Works for me. Any specific steps you have to do? Edit the image? Duplicate it? Have a local copy?

My workflow:
Import group of raw files
work imported group marking unwanted as "Rejected"
select "Rejected" and Delete
export remaining then move to another "storage" location

Deleted (Rejects) are removed from library but remain in original
import location on disk, ie: are not DELETED. XMP files also are
retained and contain:
xmp:Rating="-1"

Are those on a normal local filesystem or a network share? Are access rights of the folder correct? I can't make darktable to do what you describe.

#4 Updated by Patrick Shanahan about 4 years ago

Original working filesystem is local. "Storage" location is nfs. Wfiw, I imported a
test jpg on local filesystem and worked it, exported it and deleted the original, in dt.

The exported file and the original remain on the original local filesystem. The xmp file
for the original jpg contained: xmp:Rating="-1"

tks,

import file
export file
delete file
???

What does exporting have to do with it? You are confusing me. The bug should happen after you tried to delete the rejected images, right? Before you even hit export.

#7 Updated by Patrick Shanahan about 4 years ago

just being specific
I usually export first.

ps. Appears to only happen when I display only rejected, select all and
delete. If I am not displaying "only rejected" delete appears to work
as expected.

ps1. am paka on irc, can respond there

solved I think:

grep -i delete ./keyboardrc
; (gtk_accel_path "<Darktable>/modules/image/delete from disk or send to trash" "")
(gtk_accel_path "<Darktable>/modules/image/remove from collection" "Delete")
; (gtk_accel_path "<Darktable>/modules/tagging/delete" "")
; (gtk_accel_path "<Darktable>/modules/styles/delete" "")
(gtk_accel_path "<Darktable>/modules/image/delete from disk" "Delete")

sorry for noise, tks
