Description

I think people would find it useful if the lighttable display showed a count of the number of images on the table and when a filter is active the number of matching images out of the set of total images.

I imagine this statistic would fit best to the right of the view/sort by drop downs.

Isn't that what you already have above the lighttable? It shows you the number of images on the lighttable (i.e., the number of images matching your selection criteria) and the number of selected images.

Sorry to be so stupid, but where are those counts shown? I can't see anything like this.

You might have to expand the top panel so you see the star filter settings. If you can't see the darktable logo in the top left corner now you might have to hit ctrl-h. Now you should have the information in the top center.

That isn't strictly true. I can see these filter settings but not the count.

Ahhhh. Yes, this works. I have the logo turned off because it takes up too much screen real estate (I'm on a small screen laptop & every little helps).

IMHO the stats that are shown in the logo panel should be moved to be displayed to the right of the filter. It could be made less 'wordy' if the length is a problem.

Current text: "19 images of 103 in current collection are selected"
Could easily be: "19 of 103 images selected"
Or: "19/103 selected"

This is my first time accessing this system so please excuse me if I have overwritten some one else's comment, i hope not.

I think the suggestion by Robin is a good one however I think another place to put it would be below to the right of the zoom selector. This way it would be always visible and useful information to have... I like the idea of using the 19/103 selected option

Thanks!

While I understand that it would be nice to show the information even when the big header part is hidden there is the issue that the length of these strings already limits the minimal screen size dt requires. And the header is the part with the most free space. So moving that to another place will hurt us. I still like shortening the string, and maybe it's a first step to actually move it somewhere else. Let's see what the others think.

I think that it will be nice to have this information moved into the collection filter module. We could add one status line with the current number of selected images and the total number of images.

It would be nice also to have the number of images in each item (depending on the filter ; folder, tags, ISO...). But this may be difficult.
