Description

Hello, I just compiled/installed Darktable 1.5.1 in my Dell Inspiron with Intel® Core™ i7-3632QM computer. Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

When I try to open a raw image from my Fujifilm HS50exr camera, it almost freezes, gives a lot of error messages and, ultimately, does nothing. Or just say it doesnt recognizes the file format.

Attached samples.

History

#1 Updated by Pascal de Bruijn over 3 years ago

  • Tracker changed from Bug to Camera Support
  • Subject changed from Cannot open X-Tranz raw photo from Fujifilm HS50-EXR to Cannot open X-Trans raw photo from Fujifilm HS50-EXR

The HS50-EXR is not a supported camera, therefore this is not a bug. But a request for camera support.

#2 Updated by Pascal de Bruijn over 3 years ago

  • Subject changed from Cannot open X-Trans raw photo from Fujifilm HS50-EXR to Cannot open raw photo from Fujifilm HS50-EXR

And it's not an X-Trans sensor either.

We need a ISO 100 and high ISO sample converted to DNG using Adobe DNG Converter to add support for this model.

  • Status changed from New to In Progress
  • % Done changed from 0 to 50

I managed to obtain a converted DNG elsewhere.

https://github.com/darktable-org/darktable/commit/a72971b981fa003507a19dc804a87c444eed7374
https://github.com/darktable-org/darktable/commit/e0e1f023667510a10dae5fe891823d1877e52247

So our release will have rudimentary experimental support for the HS50EXR.

While noncritical, we still need the wb_presets for this camera model as well, could you shoot a single RAF per in camera white balance preset and run this script on those RAFs, and post back the output: http://ufraw.cvs.sourceforge.net/viewvc/ufraw/ufraw/wb_extract.pl

On a sidenote, please consider providing a RAF sample to rawsamples.ch as well.

Hello Mr. Pascal,

I will do what asked: 1 RAF sample per in camera white balance preset, run wb_exract.pl and post the results here.

Thank you very much for your work!

There are 8 WB-Preset:

{ "FinePix", "HS50EXR", "Custom", 0, { 1.589286, 1, 1.892857, 0 } },
{ "FinePix", "HS50EXR", "Daylight", 0, { 1.589286, 1, 1.892857, 0 } },
{ "FinePix", "HS50EXR", "Cloudy", 0, { 1.705357, 1, 1.66369, 0 } },
{ "FinePix", "HS50EXR", "Daylight Fluorescent", 0,{ 1.875, 1, 1.64881, 0 } },
{ "FinePix", "HS50EXR", "Day White Fluorescent", 0,{ 1.619048, 1, 1.946429, 0 } },
{ "FinePix", "HS50EXR", "White Fluorescent", 0,{ 1.651786, 1, 2.464286, 0 } },
{ "FinePix", "HS50EXR", "Incandescent", 0, { 1.041667, 1, 2.60119, 0 } },
{ "FinePix", "HS50EXR", "Auto", 0, { 1.28869, 1, 2.782738, 0 } },

I am going to post some samples to Rawsamples.ch.

If you need any photo samples, please let me know.

Thank you!

Hello Mr Pascal!

Great news!

It worked great!

I failed in compiling it for the first time, but now it seems to be Ok.

I will test some more, with other photos, but it really seems to be fine.

Thank you again!

Please ignore the attached file "darktableErrorLoadingRawFromHS50EXR.png". It was an error caused by an incorrect compilation.

Hello Mr Pascal,

Darktable is now reading Fujifilm Finepix HS50EXR raw photos!

But... What we see in the jpeg version is not what we see when the raw photo is loaded in darktable to edit.
Sorry for my ignorance, but is this to be like that? If so, then never mind and thanks again for the great effort of you and your team.
I am just now starting to deal with raws, since now Darktable will treat it right ;-)

  • Target version set to Candidate for next major release
  • Status changed from In Progress to Fixed
  • % Done changed from 50 to 100

Fuji's in-camera processing of the RAW -> JPEG is completely proprietary. No independant RAW converter is likely to reproduce that behavior.

So shooting RAW gives you access to all the data the sensor captures, but it's completely up to you to make it look the way you want to it look. Darktable provides you with ample plugins to achieve just about anything given skill. Please refer to our website for general help on how to use darktable.
